Narrative Week 4 Term 4

We have been doing some narrative writing at school.  A narrative is a fancy word for a made up story.  Each narrative needs to tell you about the setting, the characters and have a problem to solve.  Here is an example of a narrative I have written.

 Birthday Boy

  1. Watch this clip

  1. Plan a narrative that relates to the video

Think about how the people in the houses are feeling

How will you introduce the setting and characters

What will your problem be?

What is the solution to your problem?

  1. Write your story in the most descriptive way possible

It was Saturday the 5th November 1951 when my dad died in the war. My name is Danbal and I live in a little village in Korea. I had been living by myself since my dad died. My village was old and broken, there was an abandoned war plane sitting in the middle of the main street, the plane had been shot down in 1950, at the beginning of the Korean War, but nobody had removed it. My mum was a nurse during the war but had been captured by the enemy and I hadn’t seen her for a long time.

Today was my birthday and I was all alone, hoping that the trains with tanks would come to flatten out the bolt that I had left on the track to make a magnet for my toy tank. As I put my ear to the track I could hear the distant rumbling of a train, racing towards my village. I carefully placed the bolt on the track and the train crushed it flat like a coin as it passed through town.

I wandered home with the flattened bolt and there on our wooden front porch was a parcel with my name on it. Quickly I removed my shoes and untied the string, I couldn’t wait to see what was inside the parcel. I couldn’t believe my eyes, inside were Dad’s belongings, his boots, dog tagstr and his wallet with a photo of Dad and I.

Later in the day as I nodded off to sleep I heard a familiar voice drifting through the air. Could it really be her, after all this time? It was my mum and she was finally home from the war.

Athletics

On Tuesday we had our Athletics Competition. My favourite event was the shotput. The distance for my throw was 7.10 metres and that got me third place. Kody got first place. I was awarded a yellow certificate for getting third in the Year 6 Boys Shotput Competition.

We had to finish the competition early because the rain got heavy. The sprints had to be done the next day when the weather was fine again.
